Goofing Around With Salt Water Etching
A collection of sample test pieces I made while learning how to do salt water etching. It’s actually really easy, I will write a post about how to make these sort of things later. I used copper, brass, bronze, and steel.
Copper Compass Journal
A very delicate copper compass, that was later attached to a Moleskin journal.
Copper And Brass Bicycle Journal
Two bicycles one cut from copper, the other from brass, and then attached to the front of a Moleskin hard cover notebook. A present for a friend. Ended up giving them a nice high polish.
Silver Letters For Book Project
Made this for a friend that was making a photo book out of an old piece of skate board, wanted the letters to stick out past where the paper would be bound. So thats what I did.
Copper and Brass Skull Head Badge
A nice copper skull with tiny brass skull eyes. Nice head badge for a day of the dead bike, or if you are into that kind of thing.
Aluminum Galactus Head Badge
I made this from a piece of an old computer power supply. It is Galactus, Eater of worlds!
Silver Bike Chain Ring
Silver, with a glossy brushed finish. I basically took apart some bike chain, traced and measured it out a million times to make sure it was right on paper, and to make sure it would “connect” correctly when it was put on the ring mandrel, and then went for it with the torch. The holes were made with a simple drill.
More Steel Letters
Working in thick steel…always tough, but they come out so strong! These guys ended up brazed on someones custom bicycle.
The Great Pumpkin Hunt Alley Cat Head Badge
Another Halloween race, another head badge prize donation. I went with something recognizable and popular, jack the pumpkin king.
